Ocean's Pull II

About This Piece
Ocean's Pull II is a piece about healing, and about how time can be a powerful force for renewal.
Almost a year ago I made the original as an elegy. It held mourning, and the muted palette my technique allowed for at the time was true to that intention. But grief is not a fixed object. It lightens and changes shape as you carry it, and over that same span, through patience and practice, I built a new repertoire of techniques that allow for more intense color gestures.
So this is the same swell, the same forms, remade. The deeper blues and brighter highlights are what the same water looks like after the storm rather than during it. Renewal, it turns out, is not a single act of moving on. It is the slow accumulation of small improvements, made over and over, until one day you look up and see all at once how far you have come.
